Sacred, Threatened Spaces

At The Center for Spirituality in Nature, we believe that the protection and preservation of our National Parks, National Forests, Grasslands, and other public lands is a crucial foundation of our democracy. These sacred spaces offer unique opportunities for everyone to engage meaningfully with the natural world and to be touched and transformed through experiences of awe and wonder. They offer space for joy, rest, and sanctuary, reminding us what is possible when we engage in active, loving, reciprocal relationship with Earth. It is why we have an entire program devoted to exploring their history, beauty, and spiritual wisdom.
We are heartbroken by recent actions that threaten these fragile ecosystems. Major rollbacks of the Endangered Species Act, the gutting of Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante national monuments, the recent construction activity within Big Bend National Park, the threat of privatization of a portion of Yosemite National Park, and other weakened protections undermine the sacred relationship and responsibilities that allow all to thrive. We are called to respect and protect these lands, to preserve their unique beauty, biodiversity, and essential contributions to planetary health for millennia to come.
We invite you to join us in sharing why public lands are sacred to you. What meaning and wisdom have they brought to your life? What have you learned while in these sacred places? Why is it important to you that they be protected? Share your stories and photos with us here for use in future publications (we'll check with you first).
