DEEPENING YOUR SPIRITUALITY IN NATURE

Two-day (Thursday evening & Saturday morning)

Introductory course exploring spirituality in nature. Thursday evening, we introduce some basic spiritual and ecological concepts, and Saturday we go to a local natural area and have some fun exploring what nature teaches us about Spirit.

SPIRIT IN NATURE WALKS

One to three hours

Casual, fun walks in a local natural area, introducing some basic ecology and spirituality.

THE SPIRITUALITY OF WATER

One to two days

A hands-on exploration of the spiritual dimensions of water. Tapping into the important role water plays in understanding the divine, this class introduces practices to uncover the rich interplay between the physical and spiritual dynamics of water.

NATURE JOURNALING

One to two days

An overview of how to set up and keep a nature journal as a spiritual practice. We will explore how journaling helps us to pay attention and to really see the natural world and to uncover its spiritual significance.

COMING HOME TO NATURE

Six-week course (meeting weekly)

More in-depth course to discover the spiritual and ecological underpinnings of a renewed relationship with our local sacred ground.  We study Scripture and science to understand the interconnections between humans, the earth and the divine and visit local natural areas for opportunities for spiritual renewal.

SACRED ENCOUNTERS

Year-long program (meeting monthly)

A comprehensive experience in knowing, appreciating and delighting in one’s local ecosystem. Meeting monthly in different areas within a given ecosystem, individuals or groups participate in an in-depth ecological and spiritual study of the systems and creatures that give life to the sacred ground we call home.

CLASSES FOR CLERGY & SEMINARIANS !

CLERGY DAY OUT

One, Two or Three-Day Retreat

Focuses on rest, renewal and finding time for God, for clergy or those who serve in this capacity. Designed for the busy pastor who is often overwhelmed by his/her many responsibilities, this program offers Sabbath in nature.  More loosely structured than other programs, it will include spiritual and ecological study, but will emphasize making space for a renewed relationship with the Holy Spirit. This program can be tailored to the needs and interests of individual clergy or groups of clergy.

SPIRITUALITY IN NATURE

Weekly for three months or intensive one to two weeks

Through study of Scripture, spiritual practice and ecology, students will grow in their understanding of how Christians can relate more intimately with the creation and with the Creator. On-the-ground study and experience of our local Chesapeake Bay ecosystem will provide opportunities to get to know, delight in, and have compassion for, all of our neighbors – human and non-human.
