Dottie Yunger


Dottie is a marine biologist and United Methodist minister, currently serving as the senior pastor at Solomon's United Methodist Church on Solomon's Island at the confluence of the Patuxent River and the Chesapeake Bay. She was formerly an associate pastor at Metropolitan Church in Washington, DC, including lead pastor for the St Luke’s Mission Center. Previously she served as the Executive Director of Interfaith Partners for the Chesapeake and before that, Anacostia Riverkeeper. She has also worked as a marine biologist and environmental educator for the Smithsonian Institution, Discovery Channel, and the National Aquarium.


A life-long resident of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed, Dottie brings her environmental science, education, and theological expertise to the particular issues that face the Watershed and its inhabitants. In 2009, Dottie was awarded the Living Legend Award by Living Classrooms of the National Capitol Region for her work as Anacostia Riverkeeper. She received her Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology from the University of Maryland and Masters of Divinity and Masters of Theological Studies from Wesley Theological Seminary.
